Our culture is matriarchal
Rooted in a matriarchal cultural tradition, The Darling Beast is a bold Kurdish creative brand founded in 2014. We are dedicated to crafting visual narratives that explore the intersections of time, identity, feminism, resistance, and cultural surrealism. Through our work, we challenge conventional boundaries, creating pieces that speak to the complexity of diaspora experiences and the power of storytelling.
Our projects often involve collaborations with visionary female creatives, both in the Kurdish diaspora and within Kurdistan itself. These partnerships enrich our work, as we celebrate the voices and perspectives of women who continue to shape the cultural landscape in unique and transformative ways.
In 2020, we expanded our creative ecosystem by launching The Darling Beast Studios and an internship program in Erbil, which ran until 2022. These initiatives were designed to empower emerging talent, particularly women, and provide a space for experimentation and growth in the creative arts.
Every piece we produce is a multimedia collage, meticulously crafted using a mix of personal and national archives, freehand illustration, digitized textiles, and photography. This fusion of traditional and contemporary mediums reflects the layered, dynamic nature of our cultural heritage.
Raz Xaidan is the creator behind The Darling Beast, driving the brand with a commitment to authenticity, creativity, and cultural exploration.
